Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information Antarctica collects when you visit or buy from wearantarctica.com (the "Site"), why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.
The data controller is [LEGAL BUSINESS NAME], [FULL BUSINESS ADDRESS]. For any privacy question, write to hello@wearantarctica.com.
1. What we collect
Information you give us
- Name, email address, shipping and billing address and phone number — when you place an order.
- Payment details — entered directly with our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.
- Height, weight and fit preference — only if you use the fit finder on the Site. This is processed in your browser to recommend a size and is not stored with your order.
- Email address — if you subscribe to our newsletter.
- Anything you send us — support emails, reviews, and photos or videos you share with a review.
Information collected automatically
- Device and browser information, IP address, time zone, and which pages you viewed — collected through cookies and similar technologies when you browse the Site.
- The referring site or search terms that brought you here.
2. Why we use it
- To fulfil your order — process payment, ship your parcel, send tracking, and handle exchanges, returns and warranty claims. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
- To support you — answer your emails and resolve problems. Legal basis: performance of a contract and our legitimate interest in running the store.
- To prevent fraud — screen orders for risk. Legal basis: legitimate interest and legal obligation.
- To improve the Site — understand which pages work and which do not. Legal basis: legitimate interest, or consent where required for analytics cookies.
- To send marketing — only if you opted in, and you can opt out from any email. Legal basis: consent.
- To meet legal obligations — tax and accounting records. Legal basis: legal obligation.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers we need to run the store:
- Shopify — our ecommerce platform, which hosts the Site and processes orders. See shopify.com/legal/privacy.
- Payment processors — to take payment securely.
- Our fulfilment partners and shipping carriers — they receive the name, address and phone number needed to deliver your parcel, and nothing more.
- Email, reviews and analytics providers — to send order emails and newsletters, collect reviews and measure Site usage.
- Authorities — where we are legally required to respond to a lawful request.
Advertising and measurement partners. Where these tools are enabled on the Site, we share limited event data — pages viewed, items added to cart, purchases — with Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google and TikTok, so that we can measure our advertising and show relevant ads. This data is linked to you by cookie or device identifier rather than by name. You can refuse these cookies through our cookie banner, and you can control ad personalisation in your account settings on each of those platforms.
4. International transfers
We ship worldwide and our providers operate in several countries, so your information may be transferred to and stored in a country outside your own, including outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
5. How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as needed to fulfil the order, handle exchanges and warranty claims, and then for the period required by tax and accounting law, typically 7 years. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Support emails are kept for 2 years. After that, information is deleted or anonymised.
6. Cookies
We use cookies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences, keep the Site secure and understand how it is used. Essential cookies cannot be switched off. You can refuse non-essential cookies through the banner shown on your first visit, and you can delete cookies at any time in your browser settings — though some parts of the Site may then stop working properly.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy;
- have inaccurate information corrected;
- have your information deleted;
- object to or restrict how we use it;
- receive your information in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent;
- opt out of marketing emails, through the unsubscribe link in any of them.
To exercise any of these, email hello@wearantarctica.com. We respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so that we do not give your data to someone else.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom and you are unhappy with our response, you have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. We do not sell personal information. You can exercise these rights at the address above, and we will not discriminate against you for doing so.
8. Children
The Site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, write to us and we will delete it.
9. Security
The Site runs over HTTPS and payment is handled by PCI-compliant processors. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. The date below shows the last revision; material changes will be announced on this page.
